This work was all too rare but valuable in the freedom it gave from architectural constraints and subjects imposed by clients.

Here I could indulge in the effect of stains and paint textures and experiment  with types of glass not in my normal vocabulary.

Some small panels, such as the horses, were part of a series specifically designed to be wall mounted in the manner of paintings and artificially lit but the illumination systems of the time were cumbersome and the idea was never fully developed.
